Some college women join sororities with high expectations of sisterhood and status in the college community, but find the exact opposite. Described below are five methods that could make sororities more effective.

Actively seeking community service opportunities could improve sorority effectiveness. Instead of doing the bare minimum for the community, sororities should actively organize regular methods of donating their time and talents.

Focusing on the leadership opportunities in a sorority could certainly make the group more effective. Individual offices within the house can be more than just a title, which is very good for the women filling those offices. The full explanation can be found at http://jessiesbrain.com/2013/04/30/my-life-as-a-sorority-girl/

Because college is a time to learn, structured study periods within a sorority house could make a significant difference in the grades of its members. By mandating that all members must study a certain number of hours each day, sorority effectiveness could be improved.

Reducing the presence of alcohol in sororities can make a huge difference in their effectiveness. College students like to drink, but campus Greek communities take the activity entirely too seriously.

Although it has reduced in the last several years, a total elimination of hazing could also make sororities more effective. Skipping the hazing will also improve the bonds between members.

Thinking about joining a sorority is something that many college girls across the country do. What are some of the characteristics of the most successful ones?

1. The best sororities are the ones that will accept all types of people and that do not discriminate.

2. A sorority worth looking into is also going to provide a vast array of activities.

3. When you join a sorority, you want to make sure that it has some sort of central house where people are able to live.

4. The sororities that you join should also have a clear-cut and concise process for getting in. You want to feel welcome from the start and as though you have a chance.

5. Of course, you want to feel a sense of community within the sorority that you join. Look for signs of this such as t-shirts, hats or other clothes that everyone can wear.

Sororities have the ability to be a lot of fun, but you want to make sure you are choosing ones that are the best for you. When you find a sorority that has all of these qualities, then you will know that you have found the perfect one for you.

Fraternities and sororities are important parts of the college experience for any man or woman respectively, and opting to join one isn’t a decision to take lightly. Sororities in particular serve in the college community as a bit of a double-edged sword and while it may seem glamorous to join one that makes the news, it’s always important to do your research and find out why it’s so famous – or infamous. Did you read about this sorority online with your WirelessInternet service or the like only to find the sorority of your dreams was in trouble with the law? It’s important to weigh both the pros and the cons of the sorority experience.

First, the bad
- Hazing. Some sororities think they can bolster camaraderie through humiliation.
- Reputation. If the sorority you are joining is particularly rowdy it could damage your future prospects.
- Excessive Partying. Drugs and alcohol can be a dangerous combination in a wild atmosphere.

Now, the good
- Community service. Many sororities give back to the college community.
- Networking. You could establish a network of friends that will last a lifetime.
- Being a part of something. A sense of community and something you can contribute to.

Just like it is important to choose the right college that works for your educational needs the best. It is as just equally vital to choose the right sorority that you will feel most comfortable in as well. What size sorority will work the best for you? It is only you and you alone as an individual who can come up with the specific answer to this question for yourself. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to all sororities as a whole, no matter if it is large or small in size. It has been stressed how crucial it is to select the right school for yourself already from an education standpoint. Well, the very same applies to sororities, you must search amid the large and the small ones to find the right one for you and part of doing this is weighing each one’s pros and cons. No two college sororities are the same in detail. Nonetheless, the benefits of a large sorority as opposed to a smaller one are obvious, and the same can be said in addition for small sororities as opposed to bigger ones. Each has its own appeal in its own way.

One way to clearly discern which sorority size for you is to do some personal brainstorming after you conduct a search on the different sororities available at your particular school. Ask yourself how do you rate each sorority from your viewpoint and list each one’s advantages and disadvantages. After you rate each one that you check out, you will then be able to get a more ideal picture of the sorority, which is the best from amid the rest. Doing this up close and personal brainstorming is your way of helping you to make a good/firm decision on the sorority that gets your vote/like the best overall. Size is not the most important factor to take into consideration. What is the most important thing is the size of your like for one certain sorority that will stand out the most from the others. Does it offer you what you seek and is what you want as a means to socialize/become a part of interacting college life with other students? If it does, then you have found your sorority to join, despite its large or small size!

Although you badly want to be a part of the sorority or fraternity, relax a little. Remember that the Greek organizations need you just as bad. How else will the organizations maintain the criteria necessary to exists, such as membership quantity? With that being said, just have fun, and be yourself.

The first part of being yourself is joining the sorority or fraternity of your own choice. Just because your parents and their parents, or your roommate and best-friend are members or joining a certain organization, doesn-t mean it-s the right fit for you. Research the sorority a little more, and learn what the group is really about. You might find another sorority has the same beliefs and desires as you.

When you attend the meetings or parties, make sure you dress accordingly. Although these are parties, all, or most of the sororities and fraternities are respectable organizations. You want to dress like you are respectable too, despite what some movies showing adult models in sororities may say. Being a part of a Greek organization is not a big party, you give back and help the community grow, it-s all about leadership.

Visit the Greek Student Affairs office and pick up as much literature about the sororities and fraternities on your campus as possible. You will see what each group is about, which will make the conversations you have with the organization-s members and leaders easier to get through. The hits keep comin-: Letterman’s Top Ten

The main point to remember when trying to get into a sorority is that they NEED members in order to keep thriving. But here are some helpful hints to make a good impression and get a bid to rush.

Appearance- You’ve heard don’t judge a book by its cover, well that is false! Dress appropriately for the situation. If there is a gathering and they ask you wear all one color try to comply. It will show the current membership you are a team player. Also it shows the membership you are willing to try new things.

Manners- Be polite, but don’t get caught up in the excitement. Some of the top misgivings when trying to get in to a sorority are 1. too outgoing 2. too reserved. A happy balance between these is actually what current members are looking for. They want to see candidates who have the potential to one day be leaders, but someone who is also willing to learn. So by being respectful and enthusiastic the membership will get to know you and see your true potential.

Most importantly BE YOURSELF!! No one wants a fake candidate, it is not in the interest of the members.

College can be a terrifying and eye opening experience. It can also be one of the greatest times in any young adults life. There are many groups and clubs to participate in as well, but the biggest attraction always seems to be Greek Life. How do you know if Greek Life is right for you though?

Greek Life isn’t all about parties and hazing (what we see in the movies), there are actually four different types of Greek Life Categories.

1. Honorary Greek Organizations
2. Social Greek Organizations
3. Service Greek Organizations
4. Professional Greek Organizations

So before saying yea or neigh, consider all of your Greek and Non Greek options. Most Greek Life thrives on new members, so when in doubt, ask questions about the different organizations. More often then not, members will be happy to give you information. Also, a surprising amount of faculty will also have information about the Greek Life on campus and can be a great resource to tap into. Overall, Greek Life can be a great experience and can help you build a strong network for you later on, but consider all your option and get as much information as you can before deciding.
